Isotropic Subbundles of T M ⊕ T * M

چکیده
We define integrable, big-isotropic structures on a manifold M as subbundles E ⊆ T M ⊕ T * M that are isotropic with respect to the natural, neutral metric g of T M ⊕ T * M , closed by Courant brackets and such that, if E ′ is the g-orthogonal bundle, the Courant brackets [X , Y], X ∈ ΓE, Y ∈ ΓE ′ , belong to ΓE ′. We give the interpretation of such a structure by objects of M , we discuss the local geometry of the structure and we give a reduction theorem.

Given a Dirac subbundle and an isotropic subbundle, we provide a canonical method to obtain a new Dirac subbundle. When the original Dirac subbundle is Courant involutive this construction has interesting applications, unifying and generalizing some results on the reduction of Dirac structures previously found in the literature.
